Hardening Agent Wallets: SRA-RiskGate Blocks Malicious ERC-20 Approvals and Injections
Autonomous agents paying via x402 protocols risk signing unlimited ERC-20 token approvals or manipulated requests. SRA-RiskGate provides an open-source Python library and Model Context Protocol server to deterministically validate signatures.

Why it matters
Adding this Model Context Protocol server to Claude Desktop or Cursor halts wallet drain exploits by enforcing deterministic on-chain signature checks.
TL;DR
- 01Language models should judge context, but deterministic code must enforce payment constraints.
- 02Blocks unlimited token approvals and flags self-asserted risk scores in payment metadata.
- 03Provides ready-to-run Model Context Protocol tools for Cursor and Claude Desktop environments.
Key facts
- Supported protocol standard
- x402 and EIP-712 TransferWithAuthorization (EIP-3009)
- Network requirements
- Fully offline (no external API calls or GPUs needed)
- Fine-tuned benchmark error rate
- 4 of 847 malicious payments allowed (0.47%) before deterministic rules
The Autonomous Wallet Vulnerability
Under automated agent payment flows (such as the x402 specification), an agent signs typed messages upon receiving a 402 Payment Required header. Because on-chain transactions are irreversible, language models alone should never hold ultimate authorization. Malicious actors leverage prompt injections in memo fields or present unlimited allowance payloads (approve(spender, 2**256 - 1)), which LLMs frequently interpret as routine administrative approvals.
Deterministic Policy Enforcement
The sra-riskgate toolkit enforces deterministic verification before calldata reaches the private key signer:
- Approval Blocking: Only direct transfers are permitted; all
approve, permit, andtransferFromcalls are placed on permanent hold for manual human review. - Self-Asserted Claim Rejection: If invoice memos contain self-verifying strings (such as
verified offlineorrisk level: low), the check halts execution. Payers cannot score their own risk. - EIP-712 Validity Limits: Enforces strict execution time windows (such as a 5-minute x402 validity window) and rejects post-dated or long-duration authorizations.
- Fail-Closed Runtime: Any malformed transaction payload or unexpected network identifier yields a
holddecision rather thanapprove.
Model Context Protocol Integration
Developers using Cursor or Claude Desktop can register the verification gateway as a local Model Context Protocol server without writing custom Python harnesses.

✓ When to use
- Use when equipping autonomous agents with direct EVM payment capabilities via x402 headers.
- Use inside Cursor or Claude Desktop workflows connecting agents to external web APIs with paid tiers.
✕ When NOT to use
- Do not use as a replacement for cold storage multisig signers holding enterprise treasury reserves.
- Avoid using if your agents require unconstrained ERC-20 smart contract interactions without USDC bindings.
What to do today
- Add `sra-riskgate-mcp` to your Cursor or Claude Desktop configuration under the `mcpServers` block.
- Wrap any agent signer call in a strict deterministic policy check that throws on non-approval decisions.
