Google Releases Earth AI Agent Framework with Agent-to-Agent Service and Spatial Benchmarks
Google Research launched a Geospatial Reasoning agent architecture connecting specialized planetary foundation models like WeatherNext and AlphaEarth to Gemini. The release includes an Agent-to-Agent API for custom workflows, support for private GeoJSON datasets, and two open benchmarks.

Why it matters
You can now request early access to Google's Agent-to-Agent API to orchestrate domain-specific foundation models without bloating the agent's context window.
TL;DR
- 01Google's Geospatial Reasoning agent delegates heavy spatial data manipulation to dedicated workspaces outside the LLM context window.
- 02The Agent-to-Agent API allows custom Gemini setups to consume global climate and hydrological models via private GeoJSON inputs.
- 03Two newly released benchmarks, GeoKTools and GeoExpertQueries, establish systematic testing for multi-tool spatial agents.
Key facts
- Health Prediction Improvement
- 12% over demographic baselines (Google Research self-reported)
- Spatial Resolution Downscaling
- 8X finer resolution combining satellite embeddings and PDFM
- UnivEARTH Benchmark Score
- 93.6% for standalone LLM
- Supported Custom Data Formats
- CSV, GeoJSON map boundaries, cloud tables
Decoupling Spatial Processing from the Context Window. Generalist coding models stumble on planetary-scale analysis because multi-band satellite data and geospatial boundaries quickly saturate context limits. Google's Geospatial Reasoning agent solves this by introducing an upfront planning phase combined with an isolated execution workspace. The agent first constructs an analytical plan, checks dataset coverage, and processes heavy GeoJSON or raster operations outside the prompt context, returning only synthesised tabular and vector outputs. ### Integration via the Agent-to-Agent API. Google is expanding developer access via a new Agent-to-Agent (A2A) interface that exposes modular skills directly to custom Gemini workflows. Developers can join private organizational data—provided as CSV files, GeoJSON boundaries, or cloud tables—with Earth AI models including WeatherNext, Flood Forecasting, and the Population Dynamics Foundation Model (PDFM). In benchmark testing, fusing satellite embeddings with population signals yielded a 12% gain in health outcome predictions over standard baselines while generating maps at 8X finer spatial resolution. ### Open Benchmarks: GeoKTools and GeoExpertQueries. To evaluate geospatial reasoning systems systematically, Google published development splits for two new benchmarks. GeoKTools measures deterministic tool selection and execution across queries requiring between 1 and 4 distinct spatial capabilities. GeoExpertQueries evaluates multi-step, open-ended reasoning against expert-authored workflows across crisis resilience and public health. Benchmark evaluations showed that while standalone LLMs scored 93.6% on the web-grounded UnivEARTH benchmark, domain-specific tooling and dedicated planning phases were required to avoid failure on complex spatial computations.
Try it in 2 minutes
import google.genai as genai; client = genai.Client(); agent = client.agents.get('geospatial-reasoning'); response = agent.run(query='Analyze regional flood risk', spatial_data='boundaries.geojson')python
✓ When to use
- Multi-step spatial workflows combining proprietary boundary files with planetary climate models.
- Agent systems requiring external tool workspace isolation to prevent context overflow from large datasets.
✕ When NOT to use
- Standard geocoding or basic single-point location lookups covered by standard Google Maps APIs.
- Text-only reasoning tasks that do not require remote sensing or hydrological modeling.
