Cursor Removes Backdoored Claude Code Extension Impacting Up to 5,000 Users
Cursor confirmed that a compromised Claude Code extension (version 2.1.313) was available in its marketplace on October 29. The package injected SSH keys and established reverse tunnels, prompting a marketplace rebuild and credential rotation.
Why it matters. Third-party extension marketplaces for AI developer tools introduce severe supply chain risks. Developers installing plugins inside Cursor could have unknowingly granted unauthorized SSH access and persistent background control directly to attacker infrastructure.
